Size Does Matter
You know how everything seems like it was bigger when you were a kid? Well, sure! Things like cars and refrigerators seem huge when you are little tyke, and as YOU get bigger they are not near as Big. But consumables are definitely another story.
Coffee cans were bigger. What used to be a 3 lb can is now a 2 lb can. A 3lb coffee can would hold a whole weekend’s worth of night crawlers. Now, not only does the coffee not last as long, but you run the risk of running out of bait before you are done fishing!
Sugar comes in a 3 lb bag now instead of the 5 lb size. It was a great accomplishment to hoist that bag into the shopping cart when you were little. Now, not so much.
When you ordered Cotton Candy, you got a massive confection. It was huge! Now, you are lucky if it covers that crazy paper cone.
A jar of peanut butter - one of my favorite things - does not hold as much as you think. Instead of the flat bottom jar of my childhood, we now have a concave bottom jar! Same price - less peanut butter!
How about that “gallon” of orange juice. That fancy new easy pour handle design robs us of about a 1/4 of our juice.
Soda comes in all sizes now, but who can forget that giant bottle of 3V cola. It was the same price as all the other flavors. But you certainly got more of that sweet brown fluid for your dime than any of the other choices.
I swear that a Cherry Mash was the size of a baseball when I was a kid. You knew you had a candy bar when you opened a Cherry Mash. Have you seen one lately? If you are lucky it will be about the size of a ping pong ball.
Crochet thread is on a bigger spindle thereby reducing the yardage, toilet paper is narrower giving us less usable material per spin, and I think the Pringles can is shorter than it used to be!
Things really were bigger when we were kids, and everything seems to be shrinking more and more as the years go by.
